Media Advisory: Michaels, NJ Tree Foundation Team Up for Camden Tree Planting Event October 20

WHAT:

The Michaels Organization and the New Jersey Tree Foundation, with support from the City of Camden, the Morgan Village Circle Community Development Corp., and the Housing Authority of Camden County, will host a community tree planting with the residents of the 700 Block of Woodland Avenue in Camden on Oct. 20. A group of some 40 volunteers from the neighborhood and community groups are expected to help plant 15 new large shade trees and flowering plants, which residents and The Michaels Organization have pledged to adopt to ensure their care and well-being over the next five years. The Michaels Organization sought out a partnership with the respected NJ Trees Foundationwhich has enhanced neighborhoods throughout the state with treesafter the recent completion of its newest affordable housing community, Morgan Village, which Michaels developed in partnership with the Housing Authority of Camden County.

Saturday, October 20, 2012, 9:00 a.m. to Noon.

WHERE:

Volunteers will gather at 730 Woodland Avenue, Plantings will take place all along the avenue.

DETAILS:

Morgan Village, a mixed-income rental community for low and moderate income families, is a joint development of The Michaels Development Company and the Housing Authority of the City of Camden. It is located in the Morgan Village neighborhood of Southern Camden and is part of the revitalization underway in the Branch Village Neighborhood . The community tree planting event, organized by The Michaels Organization and the NJ Tree Foundation, will add natural beauty to the neighborhood with the addition of 15 large shade and flowering trees along the street and will help to connect the Morgan Village development via a greenway with nearby residential areas. Additional benefits of the trees include:

Increasing property values
Reducing urban heat islands by providing a neighborhood cooling effect.
Reducing noise pollution by absorbing sounds.
Adding vibrant color to the neighborhood in the fall, and cooling green to the street in the spring and summer.
